Frequently Asked Questions

Process & Craftsmanship

How are the sculptures made?

Each sculpture is carved individually from natural stone using a combination of powered hand tools and manual finishing techniques. The process is guided by the material itself, its density, grain, colour, and natural structure, rather than a fixed template or mould.

Are the sculptures handmade or machine-produced?

All works are entirely handmade. While powered tools are used for precision and efficiency, the shaping, refinement, and finishing are controlled directly by the artist. There is no automation, casting, or mass production involved.

Are the designs pre-planned or created during the process?

The process is adaptive rather than strictly pre-defined. While there may be an initial concept, the final form evolves in response to the material. Variations in stone often lead to adjustments in composition, ensuring each piece is unique.

What materials are used in the sculptures?

The work primarily features nephrite jade sourced in British Columbia, along with granite, marble, alabaster, rock crystal, and antler. Material selection depends on the subject and the characteristics of each piece of stone.

How long does it take to complete a sculpture?

Completion time varies significantly depending on the size, material, and complexity of the work. Some pieces may take weeks, while others require several months of careful carving and finishing.

Collectors & Acquisition

Are the sculptures one-of-a-kind?

Yes. Each sculpture is a unique, original work. There are no editions, reproductions, or duplicates. Every piece is shaped by the specific material and the artist’s process at that moment.

Why are nephrite jade sculptures considered valuable?

Nephrite jade is valued for its durability, density, and natural beauty. In British Columbia, it also carries regional significance as one of the world’s notable sources of jade. When combined with skilled craftsmanship, it results in work with both material and artistic value.

Do the sculptures hold long-term value as fine art?

As with all fine art, value is influenced by factors such as craftsmanship, material quality, artistic consistency, and provenance. Original, hand-carved works in durable materials like stone are generally considered suitable for long-term collection.

Can I commission a custom sculpture?

Commissions may be considered based on scope, material availability, and timeline. Each commissioned piece follows the same process-driven approach, meaning the final result will still be guided by the material rather than strictly predefined.

How should I care for and maintain a stone sculpture?

Stone sculptures are durable and require minimal maintenance. Regular dusting and careful handling are typically sufficient. For indoor display, no special treatment is required. For outdoor placement, considerations may vary depending on the material.

Film, Design & Rental Use

Can the sculptures be rented for film or production use?

Yes. Selected works are available for short-term rental for film, television, and production projects, subject to availability and project requirements.

What types of projects are suitable for sculpture rental?

Sculptures are commonly used in film sets, television productions, commercial shoots, staging environments, and interior design projects where a strong visual and material presence is required.

Why use real stone sculptures instead of props or replicas?

Authentic stone sculptures offer a level of detail, weight, and surface quality that is difficult to replicate. This can enhance visual credibility on screen and contribute to a more refined and realistic environment.

Are the sculptures safe to handle and transport for production?

Yes, with proper handling. As solid stone works, they require careful transport and placement. Guidance on handling, positioning, and protection can be provided as needed for production teams.

How do I arrange a rental or check availability?
